About Me
John Udinsky Jr is a guitarist, arranger and composer from Horsham, PA. From a humble beginning as a PMEA All-State Musician and an alumni of the Hatboro-Horsham School District, John went on to earn a B.M. in Jazz Guitar Performance from The University of the Arts where he studied with Philly guitar greats Mike Kennedy, Mike Quaile, Matt Davis and Kevin Hanson. During his time there, he was also a member of the school's prestigious 'Z Big Band' ensemble under the direction of Matt Gallagher.
After several years of successful freelancing, John made the transition from sideman to band member when he was recruited into the Philadelphia based funk band 'Hambone Relay' in the fall of 2015. During his tenure as a band member, John was featured as both a guitarist and a composer on their 2016 LP entitled 'Free Hugs' and performed frequently with them as they toured up and down the east coast.
In 2020 when the pandemic hit and the world shut down, John decided to take the time to focus on teaching and learn something new. During this time he peruse a long-time interest of his and studied film scoring with LA based musician Andrew Gross. It was during this time that john started his online lesson studio and decided to take it to the next level. As of 2022, John has relocated to the Los Angeles area and is dividing his time between teaching online and starting his own band.
After graduating in the spring of 2014, Udinsky began to widen his network by freelancing in the Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York tri-state area professionally, lending his talents to various singer-songwriters and jazz groups on stage and in the studio. Most notably, he served as the music director & lead guitarist for South Jersey country star Liv Devine from 2013-2016 and held the guitar chair in Jake Kaplan’s Yellow 11 Big Band from 2014-2018.
At the end of 2017, John decided to leave the Hambone Relay and transition yet again, this time from band member to solo artist, and pursue his long time passion for solo fingerstyle guitar. After spending the majority of 2018 honing his artistry, John selected 8 original songs to record and began working on hist first solo record. This album was eventually entitled ‘Movin' Along’ and was released in December of 2019.
